Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
God created the weekly Sabbath Day to rest from toil as He did following creation to experience His full presence, holiness, and special time with Him. The 7th Day Sabbath was from the beginning before any “race” of peoples and even prior to His 10 Commandments in written form. God wanted His creation, particularly His cherished human beings, to meet with Him at His dedicated time/day each week to remain intimate with Him and not forget what He purposed for mankind originally in the Garden:
And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.
Just consider the fact that if you’re in a relationship with someone, and you knew that there was a special day of the week that they wanted to share with you, since it commemorated a special event between the two of you, and they looked forward each week to spending time with you that day, but you never showed up, how do you think the other would feel? They told you in advance when to meet them and reminded you how much this particular day meant to them, but you not only didn’t show up at all, but you showed up to meet on the wrong day; do you think you would find them there waiting for you? If each week you kept telling your significant other that you were caught up in life and were too busy to meet with them that day, do you think they’d feel important to you? They might even feel someone/something else is taking your heart away from them, since you’re giving that special time away to someone/something else.
This is how Our Creator God feels when His beloved creation, mankind, neglects and ignores Sabbath. Each week, God has set an anniversary of when you first “met”, which is dear to Him, and He never wants you to forget that special day, but you not only forget, but even try to change the anniversary date to suit your schedule instead of His. As it would break anyone’s heart to have an anniversary forgotten or altered, so does it sadden God’s heart to wait for you on that day but stand Him up each time. Eventually, as in any relationship, your relationship with God either never gets established, or deteriorates, as you lose sight of how your relationship began…back in The Garden.
And I will betroth you unto me forever; yea, I will betroth you unto me in righteousness, and in justice, and in lovingkindness, and in mercies.
For thy Maker is thine husband; the LORD of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called. For the LORD hath called thee as a woman forsaken and grieved in spirit, and a wife of youth, when thou wast refused, saith thy God.
Of all the Commandments God proclaimed, the 4th regarding the Sabbath is the very one He began with the word “Remember”. He knew exactly why. He knew you would forget The Anniversary day. He never changed the Day (Isaiah 58: 13-14). Jesus honored it and never changed the Day (Luke 4:16), and the early Church with the Disciples always kept Sabbath ( Acts 13:42-44 ). So, what spirit lead you astray from your First Love and celebrating your weekly Anniversary Day?? As you may know (or not), your Adversary, Satan, sought to change times and laws (Daniel 7:25) and was successful in leading you astray, just as he first did in Eden.
Six days you shall do your work, and on the seventh day you shall rest: that your ox and your donkey may rest, and the son of your handmaid, and the stranger, may be refreshed.
It’s time to return back home to The God who lovingly created you to share in a special relationship that started out with the plan for you to enjoy everlasting life. This Sabbath (sundown Fri-sunset Sat), plan to set aside your worldly distractions & celebrate your Anniversary with your Creator. He’s the ONLY God, and He happens to want you to REST from your weekly toils, shut the world off, and spend time with Him. How beautifully amazing is that???!
Rekindle and repair your relationship with God through Jesus Christ, Our Lord OF the Sabbath ( Matthew 12:8 ). THAT is the “Lord’s Day” set by HIM alone, and none other. He’s waiting for you to come home, so this time, don’t be late!
If you turn away your foot from the sabbath, from doing your pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honorable; and shall honor him, not doing your own ways, nor finding your own pleasure, nor speaking your own words: Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.
